The game is set in a remote area in New Mexico, United States at the Research Center fictional Black Mesa complex that brings together some similarities with Area 51 . The main protagonist is the theoretical physicist Gordon Freeman, PhD from MIT, a survivor of an experiment that went terribly wrong when performing a test of resonances with crystals that came from a fictional planet called Xen. The exam took place in a large room with a huge machine. But this goes terribly wrong and opens a portal to another dimension and transported to the planet land alien creatures from the planet known as Xen. Freeman decided to go to the surface to seek help for the wounded in the research center on the way discovers that he is caught between two sides: the hostile invaders or Xenians and special forces known as HECU (Hazardous Environment Combat Unit) sent to cover up the incident, one of its objectives is to kill Freeman, one of the few survivors of Black Mesa. During the game Gordon finds a mysterious figure known as G-Man, watching every movement. At the end of the game, with the help of several scientists and security guards reached the so-called "Lambda Core" in which teleports to Xen planet where you must kill a creature that supposedly Nihilanth keeps open dimensional portals, which in turn is controlling the creatures on the planet Xen (In Half-Life 2 Vortigaunts see that they are actually peaceful creatures) with the exception of some alien that if they are wild creatures.

Half-Life: Source is a digitally remastered version of the Critically Acclaimed and best selling PC game, enhanced via Source technology to include physics simulation, enhanced effects, and more. Half-Life: Source is the very same game but imported into Half-Life 2's Source engine. It won't be seeing as much of an extensive overhaul as Counter-Strike has.
